One of the most rewarding parts of running Thrive Speech and Drama is watching children grow in confidence through our speech and drama classes.
Every term, I meet children who walk into their first lesson quietly, often unsure about speaking in front of others. Some struggle with eye contact, some speak very softly, and some feel nervous sharing their ideas in front of a group.
Many parents enrol their child because they are hoping to help their shy child gain confidence. And every term, I get to witness something truly special.
Those same children slowly begin to find their voice.
Confidence is not something children are simply born with. It is a skill that grows through encouragement, positive experiences, and regular opportunities to practise communication skills.
At Thrive, we see these confidence transformations happen again and again.
Many of the children who join our speech and drama classes for children are naturally reserved.
In their first lesson, they may struggle to speak loudly enough to be heard or feel nervous standing in front of their peers.
Through small group drama classes, fun speaking games, storytelling activities, and gentle encouragement, children begin to feel safe and supported.
Over time, we see them:
By the end of the term, many children who once felt shy are confidently speaking in front of the group.
Parents often tell me they notice big changes at home and at school too.
Confidence and communication skills go hand in hand.
As children learn clear speaking, voice projection, storytelling, and public speaking for kids, their self belief naturally grows.
Our drama classes focus on:
These are skills that support children in the classroom and in everyday life.
One of my favourite moments as a teacher is when a child who once avoided attention becomes the first to put their hand up.
It happens so often in our speech and drama classes.
Children who were once unsure begin volunteering to speak. Children who once whispered begin projecting their voices proudly. Children who once felt nervous begin performing with confidence and joy.
These moments remind us that confidence can be taught and nurtured.
The confidence growth we see at Thrive Speech and Drama happens because:
This structure allows children to grow steadily in a safe environment.
The confidence children build in speech and drama classes doesn’t stop at the end of the lesson.
Parents often notice improvements in:
These are lifelong communication skills that benefit children well beyond primary school.
You do not need a naturally confident child to benefit from speech and drama.
In fact, many of the biggest confidence gains come from children who begin quietly.
Whether your child is shy, reserved, outgoing, or somewhere in between, speech and drama classes help children develop confidence, communication skills, and creativity.
Families choose Thrive Speech and Drama because we focus on:
Our goal is to help every child find their voice.
